MUSIC THERAPY
& ART THERAPY GROUPS

Art Therapy & Music Therapy Groups for all ages

We offer group art therapy and group music therapy programs for disability providers,
schools or organisations looking for creative group initiatives.

Group Music Therapy Sessions

Our group Music Therapy programs combine the skills of a Registered Music Therapist with a group setting to help support your goals.

We arrange to come to your centre at a time and day that suits you – we supply all instruments, and we’re also happy to incorporate any resources you have. You can also come along to our purpose-built clinic at Warners Bay if your group is able to travel to us!

We work in a collaborative and flexible way so that both your group and your facility are getting the most benefit from our service.

We have provided groups for:

  • Schools
  • Childcare centres
  • Preschools
  • Aged care facilities
  • Community centres
  • Dementia services

Group Art Therapy Sessions

Our group Art Therapy programs combine the skills of a Registered Art Therapist with a group setting to help support the participants of the program.

We create group programs to suit your organisation and your goals. We can supply all the art materials, or incorporate any artmaking resources you already have. We even do all the clean up afterwards!

We have provided groups for:

  • Schools
  • Mental health units – both outpatient and inpatient
  • Aged care facilities
  • Community centres
  • Dementia services

Combined Group Art Therapy & Music Therapy Sessions

Get the best of both worlds with a combined music therapy and art therapy group!

Led by a Registered Music Therapist and a Registered Art Therapist, our combined group sessions comprise of 2 hours of both music and art interventions, aimed at positive interactions, capacity building, and providing opportunities for creative self-expression.

We tailor the program to meet the needs of your participants and the goals of your service, and provide all of the musical instruments and art materials – and we even set up and pack up!

Scribble & Hum logo

Scribble & Hum

Scribble & Hum combines music therapy and art therapy into a 2 hour program for children 5 and under and their parents/carers.

The program features music and art activities aimed at:

  • creating and nurturing positive parent-child relationships
  • building the capacity of carers to explore music and art activities at home
  • providing opportunities for creative self-expression
  • giving kids age-appropriate activities to help them reach developmental milestones
  • encouraging social connections

Creativity, mess and self-expression are key elements of the Scribble & Hum program! Our focus is on process rather than product.

Creative Kindys logo

Creative Kindys

Our school readiness program uses music therapy & art therapy interventions to help kids get ready for big school.

Big school is a big step! In our Creative Kindys program, we provide a safe space for your kindys to work on “school-ready” skills like:

  • turn-taking
  • following instructions
  • socialising
  • emotional regulation
  • fine & gross motor skills
  • concentration

Kindys are supported to express themselves and explore all those big feelings that come with starting school!

We tailor our program to suit both the needs of your kindys and your organisation or childcare centre.

Seasons of Change logo

Seasons of Change

Our aged care program, facilitated by our Registered Art Therapists, is framed around J. William Worden’s “Four Tasks of Grieving”, and runs across the four seasons – Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring – with three fortnightly sessions per season (12 group sessions total).

The “seasons of change” metaphor can be a powerful therapeutic tool to explore themes of transition, growth, and change.

Art therapy provides a safe space to explore the emotions associated with each season of life. The Seasons of Change program gives group members a non-verbal way to explore:

  • Grief and loss
  • Memory
  • Processing emotions
  • Change
  • Self-identity
  • Reflection
  • Social connection
  • Communication

This program can be combined with a music component, facilitated by one of our Registered Music Therapists.

At Newcastle Music & Art Therapy, we’re all about creating a space where everyone feels welcome and valued. We are a neuroaffirming practice, proudly support people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ folks, and Indigenous peoples.

It’s important to us that everyone feels included, heard and seen. We’re here to break down barriers, celebrate our differences, and make sure everyone can be themselves and shine.

We support the NDIS

Newcastle Music & Art Therapy operates on Awabakal country. We acknowledge the Awabakal people as the traditional custodians of the Warners Bay region and pay our respects to Awabakal elders past and present.

We are committed to a positive future for the Aboriginal community.
